How long will it take to process my application?

Applications are assessed immediately upon receipt (first-come, first serve). However, if the application is partially incomplete this will cause a delay in processing. If applications are still incomplete upon program deadlines and funding limitations; some applicants may not be served.

When will I know I have been approved for assistance?

The process can take several months. Many factors can affect approval and timeframe for assistance, such as: when a completed application with required documentation is received by H-GAC, how many eligible applicants are being processed, contractor schedule, city/county regulations, state review/decision, etc. H-GAC will notify applicants of application status immediately upon State approval decision.

What type of assistance will I receive?

Assistance will be in the form of Repair, Rehabilitation, or Reconstruction. No cash assistance will be provided to applicants.

I made repairs; will I be reimbursed?

No. Funding for this Disaster Recovery Program is a Federal "Grant", which is designed to repair, rehabilitate or reconstruct existing damage as a result of hurricane Ike, which made landfall September 13th, 2008.

What if I received FEMA/SBA/Insurance/Other assistance?

Repairs made utilizing FEMA/SBA/Insurance or Other Authorized Housing Assistance Program funding may be considered "Duplication of Benefits" if the household cannot provide accurate documentation regarding how housing funding was used. The federal regulation strictly prohibits "Duplication of Benefits". Therefore, applicants who received (FEMA/SBA/Insurance/etc.) assistance will be asked to submit the following documents in order to determine if funds were appropriately spent:

1.
2.
3.
4.
Award Letter(s) (Amount Awarded)
Insurance Adjuster's Summary of Damage and Payout Amount
Receipts of Purchases/Services
Photos (before & after)

The following are some "Eligible Repairs/Expenses, which may limit deductions from housing assistance:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
Structure Repairs (Roof, Foundation)

Interior Repairs (Ceiling, Walls, Flooring)
Leveling/Grading Property

Septic/Well

Inability to document proper use of FEMA/SBA/Insurance/Other Agency assistance may result in a reduction in the amount of assistance that can be provided through this program and the applicant may be required to pay for the resulting "GAP".
